About this deal

It features a Motorized Excavator with 360-degree spinning cabin, an articulated arm, a digging shovel, and Power Functions for movement and digging and is remote controlled using four medium Power Functions motors in a 2x3+1 switch box.

Just flip a switch on the LEGO Power Functions dual infrared remote control to drive the excavator to job sites, spin the cabin 360 degrees, to maneuver the articulated arm and to dig with the shovel. TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. In the first image, you can see the top bevel gears which control the two functions which will be passed out along the boom. IE the age group who becomes interested lego every 10 or so years don't have the models available to them and so that market is lost? The motors however seem to be no longer able to fully move the excavator and clipping of wheels can be heard a lot. There are also a large collection of panels here, including 10 of the long angled panels 64681 and 64393 in yellow which previously did not exist in any set. Some LEGO® sets contain small parts that are NOT suitable for and may pose a hazard to children under 3 years of age. The problem is that the whole weight of the digging arm is on this axle which would make it almost impossible to turn.

The ability to use all 3 digging functions at once is very nice, although to be truly realistic, you need to be able to slew without switching functions. Any teenager who manages to get one of these sets can probably count to 13 and tell the difference between that number and 15. The nice part of this is that the slewing speed matches the speed of the model turning when skid steering. The knob gears in the last picture are connected to the 4th motor which rotates the whole red assembly to simultaneously move all 3 driving rings.

Since almost no one on Earth has had a chance to build this yet, I thought I better record my thoughts and the build process as I went along. At the beginning of Oct-2010 TLG started to deliver the set again, containing redesigned Linear Actuators. The gear at left and the long axle which will be pushed through later are the input from the superstructure. For Power Functions elements, we have 4 M motors, 2 IR receivers, 2 IR transmitters, 1 battery box, and 4 linear actuators.

And if you already got all the types, and LEGO keeps making sets of the same type you'd probably won't spend money on newer models, which is something LEGO doesn't want to happen. Inside, you'll find 9 poly bags, a bucket, 3 instruction manuals for the main model, a sticker sheet, and a big pile of Power Functions components. The excavator really delivers everything a technic fan could possibly want - a generous amount of pieces, loads of gears, a very complex build, and even a fully playable model that looks great! The last two pictures show the rotation axes of the various parts of the digging arm by showing it in the two extreme positions. The 8043 Motorized Excavator from 2010 is retired, but in 2019, LEGO released the 42100 Liebherr R 9800, an excavator in the PoweredUP series of Technic models. I must admit that when I first saw images of the excavator, I had many doubts about how much functionality would actually be packed into the model.
