About this deal

Colours are bright when they need to be (the helicopter paintwork is a good example) and naturalistic in the right lighting, though many scenes have a brown/green hue that may well be down to location lighting and/or colour balance on the original neg. While this trailer might only get a handful people interested who would not have been otherwise, it's really just a fun side-project. They eventually even devise a plan to block off the entrances and kill the remaining zombies inside, so they can live there in peace. If you're coming to Dawn of the Dead for the first time from a modern horror perspective, then it's important to remember that all of those zombie films you've seen since its release are effectively bastard offspring of Romero's original.

The stories of the bikers are particularly enjoyable and don’t crop up elsewhere as a lot of the zombie anecdotes do. With a bigger canvas and way more blood-soaked carnage, it’s somewhat of an epic, despite the restricted setting. I was able to fit both main movies, and still had a fair bit of space left over on the first disc, so I added in a few extras. However, it was Dawn of the Dead, Romero’s follow up to Night, made a decade later, that is arguably more iconic.Something I never noticed until seeing screenshots lined up like this, is how red the UK 1995 Entertainment In Video VHS below is, especially in comparison to the much brighter and clearer UK 1981 Intervision pre-cert VHS at the top.

In either case, fans can better make out the stitching and faded creases in the worn leather jackets of the bike gang, the texture of the fabric in the furniture is more perceptible, and Tom Savini's gory makeup work is gorier and bloodier. Whether you have or haven't seen this movie, the 4K HDR experience is, by far, the best way to watch.opted to not up-mix to a Dolby Atmos presentation, the included audio track is top-notch and sounds terrific throughout. Jake Weber was always the husband in Medium to me, but he is a fully fleshed out hero in Dawn of the Dead, employing a believable mix of naive newbie with a strong sense of determination . It deviates a bit from the original VHS version (plus it has different music; the Cable 83 ident music lifted from Videodrome), but it has the same 'feel' to it.

I was initially dubious about having so many but they’re all markedly different and each offer something well worth listening to. Bates is an exceptional composer and Dawn of the Dead is one of his most entertaining and engaging scores. But the included extras are still top notch and the quality of the Blu-ray transfer on the theatrical cut justifies the purchase alone. Grain is barely visible and the transfer has a very pleasing 'filmic' look that's just not as pronounced on the DVD versions. Extras disc: Audio commentary by Claudio Simonetti; interview with Tom Savini (18min); interview with Dario Argento (28min); interview with Nicolas Winding Refn (8min); interview with Michele de Angelis and Gianni Vittori (8min); Quando all'Inferno non ci sara’ piu posto: Interviews with Dario undandClaudio Argento, Claudio Simonetti, Alfredo Cuomo (ca.I spotted some flickering during the first reel, which is probably attributed to the high florescent lights in the hospital hallway.
