About this deal

One-shot processes ensure a stunning and mellow gin which is perfectly blended into many combinations. A staple Irish whiskey from Bushmills distillery, this expression combines an exceptionally high amount of malt whiskey married with a lighter grain whiskey, and then matured in former Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks before being bottled at 40% abv. But I have felt that over recent years quality has been slipping and so I felt it time to revisit and share my opinion. More dark fruit notes than fresh fruit – sweet dates, fig rolls, California raisins, muscovado sugar, sawn oak and leather.

Bushmills BLACK BUSH Irish Whiskey beautifully engraved with a celebration graphic on the front of the bottle, along with a special message so you can celebrate life’s extraordinary occasions, plus all the moments along the way. In a mixing glass, slowly stir the Black Bush, sugar syrup and angostura bitters over ice until chilled. I am not a connoisseur but I do know what I like and that is 'Bushmills Black Bush', a smooth taste and a very long finish that clings to the palate and allows the flavours to linger longer. Smooth on the palate and a perfect finish, no harsh aftertaste with a perfect burn left on the tongue, albeit with a couple of small ice cubes added. Sharp on its own Sagatiba Pura Cachaça is wonderful once you add a little sugar and lime and enjoy it in the traditional Caipirinha way.At The Umbrella Project we’ve always championed local and independent producers, as well as the most traditional and influential products for bar and home use. Do however indulge in the smooth arrival and development; it's perhaps too easy to sip your way through. We weren’t shown the bottling room either because the view was completely obscured with marketing billboards due to ‘bloggers taking pictures of our upcoming releases and telling everyone before we broke the news’. Then we get dark baking fruit of dates and raisins with milk chocolate, some roast coffee beans, dried ginger and malt. This black Bush is a very nice budget whiskey, I find it better than standard jameson and better than original bushmills.

Old Bushmills has the amazing ability to be all things to all men: a thoroughly modern distillery housed in a beautiful Victorian building; a boutique distillery that nevertheless produces global brands; and a working distillery that welcomes the public. Presented in a bespoke gift box, this makes the perfect present for the Irish whiskey fan in your life! It’s an easy drinking, versatile whiskey that can be enjoyed neat, over ice or with your favourite mixer.

Uniquely aged tequilas are wonderfully blended together and each individual tequila is matured in its own small white oak barrel before combining. Bringing together malt whiskies which have been aged for 11 years in sherry casks for a truly alternative flavour. That first ever visit to Bushmills, was around 9 years prior to the still house experience I mentioned. Note: all designs may vary slightly where necessary, due to the shape and engraveable space on the chosen bottle. The BB in 1 ltr can be had for little money and when you stack it up against other blends, you appreciate what good value it is. This is something Teeling offered, but more around the tasting experience at the end which I thought was a great idea. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre!

Aromas of juniper and subtle lemon welcome you to try and this leads to flavours of spiced juniper, cedar, coriander and subtle notes of crystallised fruit. I am pleased to have Archibald contribute his thoughts on Bushmills Black Bush, as well as his tasting notes on a bottle from the 1980’s. The floral notes come to a head in the flavour, with spices carrying the drink to a new level, smoothness ruling throughout. A classic Speyside offering, Glenfiddich’s 12 Year Old blend spends time in both American and European oak casks, developing a truly distinguished flavour. That bottle is 40% ABV, so I don’t have the opportunity to sample and taste something that is cask strength or more appealing really.
